You are what you eat! Not Just Physically

"Meditating on scripture is like detoxing the mind!"

You've heard it before, "you are what you eat."

There are two types of food; food for the body and food for the soul.   Sadly, we struggle to nourish ourselves properly, both physically and spiritually.

You may be thinking, sheepishly, that you don't feed your soul very regularly.  However,  your soul IS being fed!  The question is, WHAT is it being fed?!

There is "stuff" all over the place that is filling your heart and mind!  If you watch tv or movies, listen to the radio, read books or magazines, go online, social media, even drive down the street (billboards), you're soul is being fed something!

More often than we'd like to admit, our souls are in need of a detox; a renewal!!

We renew our minds by meditating on scripture.

When you meditate on anything, it becomes a part of you!  The question is:  What will you choose to become a part of you?

You can change your mind, you can recieve a new and sound mind, by meditating on and memorizing scripture!

What does meditation look like?   For me, this is what it looks like:

-- I write scriptures And positive affirmations in a little booklet and when I take a walk, I bring that little booklet along, pick a verse and try to memorize it.

-- I read my Bible regularly and take the time to pray and think about what it means and how I can apply it to my life

-- when I read my Bible, I don't have to read long sections, I take it slow and seek to understand!  If I only get through a couple of verses, yet have been able to take it in, then great!! :)

-- I post scriptures around my house where I'll see them and read them over and over again - on the wall opposite the toilet😜, opposite my exercise bike, on the door out to the garage and back into the house, on the fridge or the cupboard door,...

-- I write scripture on a 3x5 card and keep it in my pocket, pulling it out throughout the day to think about and memorize.

-- I play worship music in my kitchen and car

-- I read inspiring and encouraging books, stories and devotionals

Have you ever heard someone read a Bible verse and you realized you knew it?!  You could quote parts of the verse?   I love it when that happens!!  Because I know that I have God's Word hidden in my heart!  Psalms 119:11 "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

Luke 1:46-55 records what many refer to as, "Mary's song"

 "And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed,  for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.

His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;  he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

He has brought down rulers from their thrones,  but has lifted up the humble.

He has filled the hungry with good things,  but has sent the rich away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel,  remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”"

Mary's Song references 12 different Old Testament scriptures!   These scriptures were a part of her being.  They just flowed out of her!   What would you like to flow out of you??  Whatever you put into your life will be what comes out!   You decide who you want to be by what you put into your mind and heart!

Let's follow Mary's example!
